I have a peculiar problem. I cannot boot into Windows unless I choose
the "Last known Good Configuration" option. If I try to start windows
normally it hangs after a few seconds of hard disc activity. I
initially turned the computer on, and the PC begins to boot and just
hangs on a black screen. So of course I do a manual restart, and of
course I get the message saying windows was not shut down properly. I
choose last know good and it starts up fine. Now, as I understand it,
once you boot successfully, the OS recognizes that successful boot
configuration as your current configuration. However, next time I
restart or turn on the PC, I get the hanging black screen, requiring
the manual restart and the choice of "Last Known good" or another
normal boot which hangs again. Perhaps an automatic system change
occurs that keeps corrupting the current configuration and preventing
it from booting the next time. Is there a way to find out? Any help
will be appreciated. I am using XP Home with SP2.
