Can not Share folders. I'm stumped...Help Please

Here is one that has got me stumped. I'm running WinXP Pro. All I'm trying
to do is share a folder on my C: drive so I can access it from another
computer on my LAN. The problem I'm having is when I select "Sharing and
Security" then click "Share this folder on the network" and then hit "OK" I
get the following error message:

"An error occurred while trying to share "name of folder". The Server
service is not started. The shared resource was not created at this time."

So it seems simple enough, go to services.msc and start the server service.
Here is my real problem. If I try to start the Server service, I get this
error message:

"Could not start the Server service on Local Computer. Error 126: The
specified module could not be found."

I've looked all over the web to no avail. I can't find a fix. I've tried
reinstalling Service Pack 1. Started any services that are related to Server
service (dependencies) and nothing seems to work. I really don't want to
reinstall Windows in fear that it may create more problems than it will
solve. I think I removed a .dll file when I uninstalled a program (which one
I don't know). Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks!

If you double click My Computer and then right click C: drive, choose
sharing and security, and then the sharing tab, following screen prompts to
share C drive,
After you click apply, you should see a supporting hand under your C drive.

This is usually the first thing that has to be done.

One thing money can't buy,
The wagging tail of a dog
The OP just wants to share a folder, not the entire C drive.

What you say is true, but don't you have to have C drive shared before
another computer can look into it for a folder ?

It might be that your internet security options are set too high.

Control panel, Internet options, Security tab, slider to Medium.

I can't think of anything else to help.

=\ Unfortunately this did not work. Time to call in an IT guy. *sigh*

Thank you very much for the help anyway, it is much appreciated.

If you figure out how to get your "Sharing and Security" tab back, please
post how you did it. About 3 weeks ago, my PC got infected with numerous
Trojans. I ran several AntiSpyware cleaners (Spyware Doctor, Windows
Defender, Spybot S&D) as well as McAfee AV until everything finally came up
clean. Everything seemed fine until I noticed a week ago that I couldn't
share anything anymore. I am running XP home, File & Printer Sharing is
installed & listed as an exception in Windows Firewall for my network
adapter but no matter what I do the "Sharing and Security" tab is no longer
visible. I've tried booting to Safe Mode, scoured the Internet (including
Kelly's Korner) but still can't get the tab back. If anyone has any ideas, I
would appreciate any tips.

Thanks, Alpine
