Try changing the server name to smtp.att.yahoo.com

Also, turn off email scanning in your anti-virus if it's on.

Thanks Frank and I see your obvious reasoning. I checked the message
I sent to the group and "step" was indeed "smtp" I can't explain how it has
changed to what you copied in your message to the group. But, I
tried changing the text to this and that and even capitalized it with
the same result. To correct the thread here is a copy of the error
message again that I got moments ago with the text capitalized.

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'c', Account: 'Pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:
'SMTP.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F"

As for turning off virus check in my OneCare maybe you could help
me there. I wouldn't have a clue as to where to start doing that.

This problem is caused by a recent update to OneCare.
To fix it, in Windows Mail:
Click on Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs. Under the Personal tab
you will see a digital ID. Highlight it and click the Remove button.
Restart Windows Mail and try sending.

Thanks Gary. I used this method the first time I had the problem
after reading your, this, explanation to another user and it did in
fact solve the problem. That was the first thing I checked when
it occurred this last time. However, this time there is nothing in
that area to remove. Could you suggest something else that might
take care of the problem? I appreciate any help given.

'Unexpected termination' is almost always caused by interference
from an antivirus or anti-spyware. To rule out OneCare as the
cause of this problem, you would need to do a trial uninstall.

Hi Gary,

At your suggestion, to resolve OneCare is not the culprit, I have
uninstalled Onecare and this message comes to you without my
having any virus protection of any kind. The problem still prevails.
That suggest that the problem is within the mail program some place.
This continues to perplex me. I must admit it's pretty interesting.
I have now tried all of the suggested resolutions I've read here
and I don't have a clue. Help!

Now back to reinstalling OneCare.

Thanks for your help Gary. Thanks to all of you fine folks who came
up with suggestions. Believe it or not quite by accident, I found the
culprit on my machine. Someone at some point in time, if not several
times, mentioned Norton and/or McAfee leaving tons of crap on
machines when they were uninstalled. It set me to thinking that there
may be some code of sorts on my machine after my recent trial and
uninstalling of Norton. Out of frustration, and please folks, I absolutely
do not advise or recommend doing what I did if you are
not comfortable making changes in the registry. Having said that, I
spent an hour today in the registry looking for anything that I thought
might be connected to my trial of Norton Anti-Virus. There was an
unbelievable amount of crap left on my machine after running the
uninstalling program.

To make a long story short, after carefully
removing anything Norton related, I must have gotten lucky, my email
is again on track. I can't tell you what specifically it was, but it was
among an awful lot of stuff that I deleted from the registry.

Again, I can't state strongly enough, if you're not comfortable in the
registry, don't under any circumstances, do what I did. The fact that
I can't tell you what it was that I took out that solved the problem, is
a good indication that it was very risky.

Again, I am so very grateful to all for the assistance given.

I get a message stating that the host 'SMTP could not be found. Please verify
that you have enter the server name correctly and also i don't know what this
mean either subject 'resume new ', AccountPOP3, Server: 'SMTP', Protocol;
SMTP, Port 25 Secure(SSL); no socket error; 11001 error number 0x800ccc0d
what does this all mean

You have entered an invalid name for your SMTP server.
You must obtain the correct mail server names from your mail provider.
However, I see you posted with a Yahoo email address. Is that your
only email address? US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail
access only, no POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not
webmail. There are two Yahoo solutions:

1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with
webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that.

2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

If you are OK with using a non-Yahoo email address, you have two other
solutions:
3. Use the email address assigned to you by your ISP.
4. Get a free Gmail account.

I cant send my messege ....I didnt understand what kind of account I need to
entered and i entered POP3 then thats it
How I can change this information ...change a account

:

All that information is available from your email service provider (usually
the same folks you get your Internet service through), most have a web page,
all should have a customer support phone number.
