Can not run Activesync from XP pro

I downloaded Activesync 3.5 and 3.7.1 from Microsoft, and
installed to my PC (run Windows XP Professional).
I have one handhold device running at Windows CE.Net 4.0.
I tried to sync the device to my PC through COM port. But
it is always failed.
The funny thing is: From ActiveSync application window,
at \File directory, there are two options "Get connected"
and "Connect Setting", when I active those two options,
it goes to same function, I really don't know what happen?
The handhold device is good, it could sync with other PC
at my office.
It will be appreciated if anyone could help me.
