Can not get icons true picture

For some odd reason, all my icons have been corrupted. When I install
anything, the real icon is missing, I just have a blank look. I right click
and say "change icon", and I see the real icon and say change, but nothing
happens. Can someone tell me what to do?

To clear and reset icon cache:
Right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Advanced. Now using
the item drop down box, choose Icon. Change the pixel number by one. OK all the
way out.
