Dear friends,

Recently my windows 2000 pro operating system crashed. I had two operating
systems windows 2000 and windows 98 running on my PC. Windows 2000 was my
default operating system with 5 seconds changeover times from windows 2000
and windows 98. Now I found that this 5 seconds time is very less for
changing over as I had to remain alert. For this, I modified boot.ini file
while working in windows 98. But by mistake I damaged the boot.ini file and
now I am not getting screen option of windows 98 .

My only option is switching over to windows 2000 which is not functioning. I
activated the booting option by using F8. I tried using all the modes like
safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, enable
boot logging and the others. But by pressing any of the above options I am
again being directed to windows 2000 boot up and my PC is getting hanged.
My floppy drive is not working?
I changed the boot sequence in CMOS set up and tried to boot from CD with
bootable CD. But while booting I am getting message “ Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM
: CD-ROM Loader v1.2 BETA 09/07/01 © 2001 BY Bart Lagerweij.â€
Please note that my CD drive ( sony CD writer) is working fine otherwise
within an operating system.
I tried all boot up sequences and all CMOS setup options.
I am not able to start my PC.
How to get command from for my hard drives as well as that CD drive?

If I understand your lengthy post correctly then this is the situation:
- Your Win2000 installation is no longer booting.
- You cannot reach your Win98 installation (which probably still works).
- Your floppy disk drive is defective.
- You cannot boot from your CD ROM.

This sounds like a poorly maintained system. I recommend you do this:
1. Buy a new floppy disk drive. They are cheap!
2. Download and boot with a Win98 boot disk (www.bootdisk.com).
3. Run this command: fdisk /mbr.
4. Run this command: sys c:.

You should now be able to boot into Win98.

If you want to repair or reload Win2000 then you must do
something about booting from your CD drive. Don't wait
until your system fails - do it now!

ASSUMING you installed Win98 FIRST! in this multiboot setup
you can boot from floppy and edit/repair boot.ini from there.
So ...
Set boot order in BIOS 1:CD-ROM - 2:Floppy - 3:Hard disk.
Boot using a BOOTABLE floppy:
- from good old DOS6.xx.
- from Win98 setup,
- from Win98 emergency set
- created at a friends Win98
- created at a friends WinXP
- created using www.bootdisk.com
While booting press F8 to enter the boot menu.
Choose DOS prompt.
Type: set path=c:\windows\command
Use 'Edit' to repair your boot.ini

John
