Hello PCR!

Long time no see aye guys!

Just a quick question, something that I need clarification on.

So...

I have this tv - http://www.comparison.com.au/televisions/LG/26LX2R

Quite old, not the greatest, looking to replace hence wanting to use it as my computer monitor.

Basically would this TV work as a monitor? What type of connection would I need, as the ones I have at home dont seem to fit.

Would the fact it is 26 inch make it to big to work as a computer monitor?

I dont really want to play games on it, just use it for multimedia, web browsing and world of warcraft (ofc!)

Im wanting to use it on the system below on my sig, would the gfx card be able to manage the size of the screen or do you think it would look crappy

Kind Regards

GMAN!

Good to see you G~MAN :D

There's no reason you can't use this as a monitor, and the TV specs say that it comes with HDMI, S-Video and PC-Input connections. Which one of those you use depends on your graphics card - do you have the exact model and we can see which connections it has.

However... although it may sound good having a 26" monitor, the resolution isn't going to be very high at all. It's only 1366 x 768 px max, which is well below that of a normal monitor. It may be good for gaming, but it's not really ideal for normal usage. A normal PC monitor will be far better quality :).

In that case, I will go with your advice and seek out a new monitor.

I would prefer a bigger monitor than what I have atm, a 22 inch maybe?

Do you have any suggestions as to which monitor I should get, price ranged would be no more that £130ish

Kind regards

I agree with Ian, a proper monitor is much better for gaming

Just had a quick look on ebuyer, this caught my eye

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/197347

Has VGA, DVI and HDMI so you connect pretty much everything to it plus its capable of 1080p. Haven't read any reviews on it so it may be rubbish

Yep, Dell make good monitors, which is possibly their only claim to fame. The link above doesn't seem to have a price

I'd recommend Samsung (foremost) Delll, Phillips; and LG.

22" Monitors are also the most reasonably priced monitors available atm.

Hello gang!

Just got the monitor through today, set it all up and then noticed that my computer doesn't have a VGA connection! great!

So im thinking there is an adapter out there that can do the job.

I had a look online, and came accross this:

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sn...=SS&cid=5186&lid=121454&acd=23975883724507165

Im assuming this is what I need, I just want to double check with the pros first!

You want to connect it to your pc via VGA? Why?

DVI is better....

Yeah I'm a little confused too, the monitor says it has VGA,DVI & HDMI ports - and your graphics card should have either VGA or DVI for the connection? DVI is better if you have the option :).

I have DVI connection on my computer, but the monitor came with a VGA cable.

I managed to find an adapter lying about the house, but would there be a noticeable difference if I was to go out and purchase a DVI cable?

Not quite sure what's going on here, if your computer doesn't have a VGA connection then it must have a DVI connection (and possibly also an HDMI connection as well but that's unlikely). The monitor you have has a DVI socket.

So you should connect the monitor to your computer with a DVI lead. What was your old connector setup then?

If I'm correct, don't get a converter, get a DVI lead.

Edit: I missed the earlier replies, sorry.

I managed to get the connection sorted, but I am using an adapter.

Would getting a DVI cable provide a better picture than using a VGA cable with an adapted.

I hopr that makes sense!

Yes and No

From an audio/visual buddy

You will probably find it difficult to get a single unit that can properly render displays from PC and TV signals to do resolution conflicts. It seems that one or the other is a little out of sync. I would look to higher end brands like Sony for a possible solution.
