One of my Windows 2000 server (HP server 1GB ethernet). when I switched the
100Mbp connection to 1Gb within 5 minutes the server lost the connection. I
put the server back to the 100mbp port and everything work fine (except).
Since then I am unable to open Network card property, unable to remove or add
any new
program. I tried installing patches over the
weekend and it could not complete installation. I donot get any errors in the
event viewer so its difficult to troubleshoot. I would alos like to change IP
address but could not open property of network card. I do keep system state
backup so restored it from last month but still the same problem. After
login, windows take very long to time to start.

Can someone please help?

Let's look at what you said. You changed the Network card to a Gigabit card
and the Server lost connection after 5 minbs. You returned to the 100Mbp
card and everything was fine except???

Not sure what your "except" meant. Did you mean except card properties
could no longer be accessed. The question then becomes when did you first
notice this?

The first thing I would do is install qfecheck:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;282784

This can be installed by just extracting the obtained exe and then popping
qfecheck in C:\WINNT\system32.

Run it and see if your Hotfixes are well installed. But note Windows 2000
SP3 and SFC are problematic which can affect qfecheck.

My solution is to disable the APC services (2). If you have APC power chute
6.XX you must remove it or upgrade to 7.XX. to solve the problems.
