Win 2000 Server problem

Steven Drury

We are adding a new server to our network. When I installed it I told it
that it was an additional server to the network. However when I plug the
network card in I can not login to our network at all from any of our win 98
clients. XP clients work great we need to keep the win98 client until we
upgrade our some of our software packages.

The new server has an 1GB network card is it possible that win98 clients can
not handle it?

Also when I run the DCPromo and tell the server it is a member of the
existing network it does not replicate the user active directorys. The
other servers on the network are win 2K as well.

Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Didn't you have the server connected to the network when you installed it?

I fixed it this morning. I went into the network card settings and change it
to 100MB Full duplex and now it is working. I am unsure why. The only
error I got was "unable to login due to wrong username or password" no error
codes

Never would have thought of that.

Thanks for posting what steps you took to resolve that.
