Can I upgrade from XP Home to Pro with Pro Full Version?

R

RL

I bought a Dell computer with XP Home pre-installed. I
can get the Full Version of XP Pro through the Microsoft
Developer's Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) for free.
Can I upgrade to XP Pro from Home with the full version,
or must I purchase the XP Pro Upgrade version?

If possible, please respond to my e-mail address in
addition to this newsgroup

Hi

If you can obtain the full version of XP Pro via MSDNAA - you should know the answer to your question.

All answers are via the news groups, not via email.

The Academic Alliance version might be a single-user
license. So if the Home version is being used by more
than one person, you may want to consider not upgrading.

If you don't want to give a serious answer, don't bother
replying! I came here for help, not sarcasm.

Although this isn't pertinent, it seems I must explain my
situation in excessive detail in order to get a straight
answer. The reason I can download XP Pro from MSDNAA is
that I am a University of Florida engineering student. As
such, I can download many Microsoft programs that would
otherwise be prohibitively expensive. Most I do not use,
but the laptop I will be using FOR CLASS needs to have XP
Pro. It came with Home. I can download the FULL version
only. Hence my question.

Now, can anybody actually give me a straight answer?

I know that the Upgrade version can do an upgrade or a
clean install (as long as you have the original CD). My
question is, can the Full version also do an upgrade as
well as a clean install? I want to avoid the hassle of
installing drivers and software that came preinstalled for
me.

And no, just because I can access the MSDNAA through my
school DOESN'T MEAN I already know the answer. If I did,
why would I post to this Newsgroup?

The Full Retail version of XP will do either
1) a Clean Install
or
2) an Upgrade Install.
