Can I turn off Auto save in Access?

Hi all,
I have discovered that when you open an old database to view the contents
and close it that Access automatically saves. I would like to turn this off
so I can identify when the file was actually modified. Is this possible?
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

No, it's not possible.

If it's important to you, make a copy of the database, open the copy, then
delete the copy when you're done.

What I usually do, cumbersome though it is, is temporarily make the database
file read-only via the right-click Properties dialog, then open it. When
I'm done, I open its properties again and uncheck the "Read Only" attribute.
