I have sent an email but have no way knowing if the recipient has opened the
email & read it.

Is there some way of finding this information?

I have just been converted from GroupWise to Outlook & this feature was
available with GroupWise.

Thanks...

Please provide Outlook version.

Outlook 2003: Tools-Options-Email Options-Tracking Options.

Call the recipient and ask them.

There isn't any reliable way to do it with Outlook (or Groupwise for that
matter) if you're talking about Internet e-mail. If you're talking about
mail internal to your organization then you can use Read Receipts to get
Outlook to tell you when the message has been marked as Read, but that
doesn't guarantee that it was (or wasn't) actually read.

Sending those messages to users on the Internet is a very hit or miss
proposition. A lot of messaging clients don't support read receipts and
some servers will block them or strip them.
