Can I retrieve a word doc

My 10 year old son has been working on a school project.
I have told him to make sure that he saves frequently.
he has saved to the same file all the time.
he goes to open his save by opening word, he then hits
save and up pops his project. he saves a blank doc over
his projects and now has nothing.
is there a way to reverse the save.

Practically, no. Based on what you say, sounds like the document lost.

Do you by chance have any backups to get yesterday's version? On my
kids machine, I run automated backups using XP's backup utility every
day or so to get an incremental backup stored into a folder called
c:\backup. Has been of use in similar circumstances. Better to backup
onto another machine or media, of course, which we do. But at least
better than no backup when 10 year olds are doing homework.

In addition to saving frequently, should also save into different files.
Teach your son how to save each version with an incremental version
number, e.g. FileSave As "homework_ver1.doc", "homework_ver2.doc", etc.
When project done, delete all previous versions. Yes, you can write a
macro to automate this, but better they learn themselves.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
