Can i retreive emails that have disappeared

The contents of my emails inbox, sent items and all other folders have
disappered, I am not quiet sure of the event leading upto this as I was at
work and my daughter had used the computer, but I was wondering if there is
any way of retrieving them. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Also is there any way of backing up in case this happens again

Did your daughter setup another profile or login on your machine? That would
be the first thing to check
