Can I repartition my logical drive?

Dear all,

I have an XP professional addition, and have 2 logical drives C and D. I
would like to combine them together into one beigger logical drive. Can I
do that in XP (without having to buy Partition Magic and the likes)?

No, Windows XP does not include the ability to resize partitions. You will
need a 3rd party utility, such as BootIt Next Generation, www.bootitng.com,
$34.95 US, 30 day shareware, Partition Magic or a similar program.

You can only do it by either backing up the contents, deleting them
both, making a new one to use all the space and copying data back
- this at Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive, to right
click in partitions and take delete, then in resulting Unallocated space
to create the new one

Or use third party software.

Also, I think there are issues here with whether or not XP system files are
loaded onto the C: drive or the D: drive.

Yes and no. If you are willing to lose all of your programs (including your
OS) and data, you can re-partition your hard drive, then format it, the
re-install your OS.

Otherwise no, unless you do it with a 3rd party program such as Partition
Magic. There may also be some free third party partitioning programs, but I
do not know anything about them or how good (and how reliable) they are.

Caution: before doing anything, do a backup of all important data.
