can I reformat with a slave drive?

I caught a worm, but it infected my Nortons, I need to
reformat my XP completely. I have a slave drive I
installed that doesnt communicate with my C drive at all,
it is just a storage area. Can I re-format without
opening the computer and removing this slave drive?
