My computer at work is Windows 98. I made a shortcut key
for Word. I go to Programs, Excel, right click on Excel,
then click on Properties. The Details is grayed out so I
cannot type an shortcut. Is there a way to change this?

Try creating a new shortcut to excel.exe on your desktop.

then give that shortcut the shortcut key.

I think I tried that. I should have written you from
work, but I know I will not have time. I'll try that.
Any other ideas would be appreciated because I really
think I tried that.

i cannot vouch for this solution as i do not have windows 98 anymore
but several years ago, when i used to work on windows 98, i think
used to employ this real neat trick to quickly create shortcuts. thi
works on all the contemporary version of windows.

go to Start - Programs. find Microsoft Excel link. right-click on th
icon AND keep it pressed and then drag it out on to the desktop, an
then let go of the pressed right-click. you will be asked whether yo
want to copy, move or create shortcut
