Me and my wife have been looking for a house. House hunting sucks if you
don't have a bunch of money.
I have a ton of debt and a student loan. My wife doesn't, but she doesn't
make as much as I do.
We wanted something not crazy expensive, so we only got approved for a small
amount. We wanted to make sure we could still make payments if either one of
us lost our job.
Unfortunately, the low loan amount seems to be limiting us.
We asked for $100K, and were easily approved (both of our credit scores are
about 800).
It seems like the great houses are going for $150K+, and there are a lot of
shit houses in the $80K area. A lot of new homes around us are being built
and going for $150-$250.
We made a bid for one, and were turned down. We didn't offer a bunch more,
because we thought we could get something better.
Well, after a dozen more houses, we started to feel like the first was the
best.
Until today. We found something awesome.
4 bedrooms, 2 car garage, new hard-wood floors, fresh paint, a ton of space.
But it's $108K. We're offering $102K, and are telling the real-estate lady
we want to do an immediate counter-offer if they wont take $102. Some family
said they would help us if we needed the full $108, and I don't want to let
this home get away.
