Can I get it back?

There is a more important and urgent point.

I think he is using his computer. Every second he uses it reduces the chance of recovery. He needs to pull the power plug out of the wall now. And not turn it on till he's ready to try recovery.

How in God's name is there supposed to be anything like what the OP is
looking for if the restore has taken place twice??

We don't really know what was the method of the Restore. Was it a Recovery? Was it a Last Known Good? Was it a Restore from backup? Was it a Restore from an EISA partition?

You may be correct and all his data may be gone, but I want to see that for myself. There is nothing in any post in this thread that is conclusive that he does not have an old profile on the computer.

OMG! There seems to be hope still!!?? And Carl, you may be right that my old
profile might still be lurking beneath all that data. You see, what i did was
use this freebie software for recovering data as suggested by Mark G. *Thanks
for that, Mark* And I had left it running in the hands of my brother as I had
to go to work. *I know* It seems that it might have retrieved an old document
but I could not open that document. Word prompts that it doesnt have the
convertor to display the file and that it needs the CD. I dont have that. And
this document is one of the documents that I need. Out of all the documents
lost, only one seems to be recovered and this is one of them. So there is
chance that the rest are in there? somewhere?

Under Documents and Settings, there are currently three folders -- 1)All
Users 2)Owner and now there is a 3rd folder (that is in a slightly lighter
shade) named Default Owner. There were previously only two folders (the first
two) in the Documents and Settings but after the data recovery program was
used, this folder seems to have popped up?
Inside the Documents and Settings, there is the My Documents folder which
contains:
My eBooks
My Music
My Pictures
My Received files
My Videos
WebCam center
Yahoo Briefcase
PMC (a folder I created myself)

I dont see any older profile or user folder. In fact I dont see that
anywehere in the C drive.

As for the 'recovery' that was performed on the pc, I think it is smthg as
Alex described:

"Probably this was a 'restore' started up by a function key at boot on
say an HP or Packard Bell. That is there to put things back to
ex-factory state, formatting the disk. If you do not have backups I'm
afraid all is lost"

What we have is a HP and like he said, it was started up on boot and we were
asked to do it.

It seems as though I am almost there but not there yet. What should be done
next?
Thanks for all the effort. I really appreciate this.
