Can I downgrade to Vista Home ?

Mike Smithson

I've been having many un-resolved problems with my Gateway machine (GM5424)
which is pre-loaded with the Vista Ultimate 32 edition.

All I have is the gateway restore discs and have reinstalled windows many
times and ALWAYS end up with the same OS error problems.

Question: if I go out and purchase a "full version" of Vista home premium do
you think this machine will let me do a clean install?

Thanks,

Mike S.

Do not waste your money - the OS is the same (just a few less features) so
you should focus on fixing your problems - and maybe talking to your OEM
(Gateway) may help, after all it is their responsibility to provide you with
support for the OEM installed OS.

Simply installing a different version of Vista is not going to solve
any problems that you are having. What, exactly, are the problems
that you keep having?

Probably not, but that is just a guess on my part because you haven't
told us what the "OS error problems" are. If your computer is
misbehaving after restoring it to factory condition, there is a good
possibility that the issue is faulty hardware. Unless the "OS error
problems" are caused by some software you are installing every time,
exercise your warranty with Gateway and return the machine for
repair/replacement.

Yes you will be able to do a clean install.

However, what makes you think that a home premium version is not going to
have the same problems you are currently experiencing with ultimate?

Thanks for all the input.

Perhaps my problem (as suggested) is hardware related and changing OS's
probably won't solve my issues.

I'll jump over to gateway and start installing every update I can find for
my machine over there.

Thanks,

Mike

Before you do that, make sure it isn't a hardware issue. Software
(updates) solutions will be useless for hardware problems. Since you
still haven't told us what's wrong, that's all I can suggest.
