C:\ $INPLACE.~TR and C:\$WINDOWS.~Q?

What are they?

I did an upgrade install of Vista over XP.

C:\ $INPLACE.~TR and C:\$WINDOWS.~Q?
What are they?

These are temporary files Windows Setup uses while upgrading from a previous
version of windows. The installer is supposed to remove these files when
setup completes.

They can be deleted safely. :)

I absolutely connot delete the $WINDOWS.~Q folder on my computer. It says I
do not have permission.

In Windows Vista RC1, you can delete these files using the disk cleanup
wizard.

- Click start
- Type: clean
- Click Disk Cleanup

You will need to chose the option for files on the entire computer.
