can I connect parallel scanner to usb port?

I have purchased a new laptop which does not have a parallel printer
port. Can I connect my old parallel scanner to the usb port via a
usb/parallel cable converter? I have purchased on in the hope that I
could do this but it appears that there is no suitable cable for
scanners? Is this correct?

PS - I know I should go out and buy a new scanner, but I have spent so
much on things I didn't really need I was trying to pull my budget back
into line!!!

If your budget does not allow, you should wait.

I am in the USA, so these are USA links and prices.

What happened to your old computer that the scanner worked on? Why can't you
continue to use the old computer for scanning? If you have a network card in
both computers, transferring files is easy. (It takes a crossover cable or a
network hub).

In my search, I have found that a PCMCIA parallel port card costs as much as
a low cost USB scanner. For instance, the CanoScan 3000ex is only $49.99.

PCMCIA Parallel port card: ($65) This is about the lowest cost I could find.

As far as I know of, USB to parallel adapters support printers only.

Do it not just for the connecting issue, but because you'll have a
better scanner, too.

I was interested in your problem because mine is the same. I have
Paperlite very different type scanner which is perfect for doing a
size doc quickly (and it files them). It works fine on m
"old" win98 PC but cannot get the software to load on m
new XP Targa PC. The software loads onto my brand new laptop but o
course, no parallel port so I just bought a parallel to USB adapte
but the software wants to look for a parallel port and not a USB.
Now can ANYONE please please help me. I have not yet recd the route
I ordered for (I hope) a home network and the old PC is in the othe
room. I have a lot of A4 to do and do not want to keep lifting th
lid on either of my other 2 scanners (this one feeds through like
fax m/c only smaller)

PLEASE :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

I'd be amazed if you could. IIRC WinXP doesn't much like parallel devices.
