Can folder views be applied to a directory tree?

I've always used detailed folder view on everything except the Control
Panel. Very easy to just apply the view to all folders and change the
one or two exceptions.

Now that I've installed XP Pro, I like the thumbnailed views of photo
and movie directories. But I've got hundreds, maybe even thousands of
such directories, so setting them indivdidually is nearly an
impossible task.

Is there any way to apply a view to an entire directory tree? Perhaps
by using a script that traverses the directory tree rather than from
Windows Explorer itself?

And is there any way to have new directories automatically inherit the
parent directory's view? I'm constantly adding new photo and movie
content directories and once again setting them individually would be
a never-ending job.

Hi Eli,

Open Windows Explorer and select view that you would like to set, then click
on Tools > View > and click the button "Apply to All Folders".

I hope this helps you out,

Mike

This is exactly what I don't want. I still want to use the detailed
view for all folders except those containing photos and movies. Those
folders are all kept within just a few directory trees, so being able
to apply the view to those select trees is what I'm looking for.

I've never successfully done what you are asking. However, you
might use "Special Permissions & Settings" to migrate parent file
& folder attributes to children levels. Check out the following MS
TechNote - If you do get it working, post back and let us know.
