Can "do you want to save changes to xxxx.doc" be disabled

I use legal software in conjunction with Word 2003. My legal software has a
toolbar which has a save icon. When using Word 2000, if I clicked on the
save icon, the document saved to my legal software and automatically closed
the document in Word. After upgrading to Word 2003, I now get the secondary
Word message as above which effectively means I have to confirm my save -
which annoys me no end.
Can the save confirmation feature in Word be disabled some way?

In Word 2003, did you click on the "Save" icon too? The message sounds like
you tried to close the document without saving it. If you leave your mouse
over the icon you used, what label do you see?

You get that message when something has been done in the document, perhaps a
print, that changes something. The something may only be the updating of a
field to the same result, but Microsoft is sensing some change. Word 2003 is
more sensitive to a lot of things going on in Word than was Word 2000. Your
legal software should be changing the saved status of the Word document in
memory so as to not bring about this prompt.
