can connect to internet using links

Hello everyone. I have a small problem I can't figure out
( I know it will be a simple answer) when a url link such
as in an email is clicked on nothing happens. IE dosen't
open or anything. Am running XP home ver 6.02 am
connected to the internet via a cable modem through a
router. I can access the internet through IE6 and browse
with no problems clicking on links in ie while online is
not a problem I can go to any link I clcik on. Any help
would be appreciated.
