Can browse through Windows Explorer but no IE

I have a strange problem on a Windows XP Home system.
When we used IE 6 - it says page can not be displayed -
dns error. But if we use Windows Explorer and put a URL
in the address bar, it will go to the website and any
links or other addresses you enter. Windows Explorer
appears to work just like IE but IE won't display
anything while Windows Explorer will. Any ideas?

Lauri,
This is possibly being caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Note: run CWShredder first, then
the other two. Also note the security tips on that page.
