Can a Wireless and Cable Network live together.

I have my two machine connected by a simple crossover, peer to peer
network through the NIC in each.
I would like to add a wireless network to the mix through a DSL router.
I think I would know how to do that if the cable network were not in
place. Is it possible to do it without tearing down all the cable
connections? Would simply disabling them suffice?

Thank you.

A wireless network to do what? Replace the existing wired connection or
supplement it somehow? Are you sharing a broadband connection now or do you
intend to do so with the new router? Do you intend to have the existing two
machines communicate wirelessly from now on or would you be happy if they
were still wired? Personally I'd buy a router that provides both wired and
wireless, run the cables from the NICs in the existing machines to the
router and hook the router to the cable/dsl modem. That way no wireless
adapters need be purchased for the existing machines and the superior speed
capability of wired is preserved and any new machines that come into the
house that happen to have wireless in them will be ready to talk without
wires. Just my $0.02 of course and you should realize that I've already
wired my entire house for Ethernet.
