Camera Phones

No where have I seen anything about compatibility of Windows XP and various
models of camera phones. When I connect the USB data cable from my Cannon C70
digital camera to my computer Windows XP knows what hardware is being
connected and starts downloading picture files. The question is will this
also be the case if I connect my camera phone or do I have to purchase the
software/drivers specifically for that particular phone to transfer files?
Anyone with experience with this would help me know wether to just purchase a
data cable or data cable and software. Thanks.

The complete answer to your question is dependent upon the specific make and
cellphone model.
Software may be free. The cellphone may have an infrared interface as well
as a a cable type interface.
My Nokias are older models, have both an infrared port and a serial port
i/o. The phones can act as a modem.
Basic generic PnP interface capability was included in some windows
versions. The Mfrs software is free for download, and is not the greatest
for this older model.

my daughter's sony k700i uses bluetooth for connectivity to the pc. higher
end phones seem to be bluetooth now. she has a dongle and we set that up on
our XP pc to the usb port and it talks direct to the phone. we can transfer
music and pictures too and from the phone now. we can even use the phone as
a remote control!. it wasnt the easiest thing to get going but eventually we
figured it out. any help?. officially the dongle was called a USB adapter

This is most likely specific to the phone model and perhaps cell provider.

My SprintPCS Sanyos (SCP-8100 & PM-8200) will only upload photos to Sprint's
website. From there, I have done a "save as" to my PC. With lots of photos
this can be a tedious process, but I do not know of any direct way to DL the
photos to my PC.

DataPilot software, BitPim http://www.bitpim.org/#download (freeware) and
perhaps some others would have to be re-written to access the pictures and
I'm not aware that anyone has done this yet.
