Confused

Hi... My camera is connected to the computer's USB. It
has always worked with no problems. Yesterday I connected
my camera and it is not recognizing it.... it's telling me
the camera can not be found. I am running windows xp,
sp1. I looked in the device manager... everything looks
fine. Any ideas what may be wrong? It would be most
helpful. Thanks!

USB devices can sometimes be lost, due to "Phantoms"
Plugging in a USB device to a different USB channel, can
result in a device not being re-enumerated. Open Device
Manager (System, Hardware) in Control Panel. Click View
tic (check) option "Show Hidden Devices". Expand the
"Imaging Devices" category by clicking the +. Check the
list for your camera, but shown slightly grayed out. If
found Right click and choose Uninstall. Reboot your PC
and then Re-connect the camera. XP should redetect &
load necessary drivers.

Well, if you read very many posts, you will see how often such an obvious
thing is overlooked. Perhaps you plugged the camera into a USB 1.0 port
instead of a USB 2.0 port. Some computers have both.

By the way, using your real email address in NG posts will invite spam into
your inbox.

I did everything up to and including 'Show Hidden
Devices'. However, there wasn't an "Imaging Devices"
category. I opened all the categories that were listed...
Nothing was grayed out... and nowhere did I see my
camera. :-(

I did some IT work for a while, so I know that things like
that happen... you are right. Thanks. :-)
