Call of duty 2 + 9800 pro

Is this game a resource hog or is there something else at play here?
I have a 9800 pro + Athlon 64 3200, and have been running quake 4 just
fine, albeit @1024x768 and dropping to 20-30FPS in some places. CoD2
on the other hand, is totally unplayable, only getting a few FPS
@1024x768, right at the training stage. @640x480 it's 'playable' but
not surprisingly, very ugly. I fail to see how a machine with the
stated minimum spec would be capable of running the game even at this
low resolution.
Maybe I need to buy a 7800 + free CoD2 bundle.....!

Force it to run at dx7, it will strip off the eycandy, but makes it run alot
faster. Tt requires a bitch of a card to run it in DX9c in a decent
resolution.

That would also do the trick :)

Either run it in DX7 mode, or DX9 and manually set the texture detail in the
submenu. In both cases the game will start to look like CoD1...

Be sure it's a 512 MB version. CoD2 with all the eyecandy maxed out will
humble the 256 MB version, due to the size of the textures.

Thanks for the DX7 tip, it worked a treat. 9=slideshow, 7=smooth with
settings maxed out. I can live with a bit less eye candy and not
having to spend a small fortune on a kick-ass gfx card!
