Calendar recurring start

I created a calendar item in Office 2003, for Father's Day.

I then looked for it, and saw the first occurrence was for June 14,
2009. I changed that to June 15, 2008 and saved it - several times.

Why can't I get this change to stick?

Why can't I get this change to stick?

I finally was able to delete it, after changing the view to a list
view, and started over, creating a new calendar item starting with a
year ago. I don't know what my problem was.
