Nice find Frank - a plain, simple and small calendar prog.
I've been using Click Tray Calendar for some time now, but even that
has far too many gubbins for my needs. This little baby looks to be
just the ticket - cheers.

Glad you like it Steve. If you haven't already got it you might have a look
at Timer Wizard. A reminder program for future events but also an
"eggtimer".

A calender must know about holidays in different countries to be useful
for people in different countries. A really good freeware calender is
this one:

http://www.8ung.at/ukrebs/english/

It knows the holidays in these countries:

USA
UK
Sweden
Finland
Poland
Norway
Italy
Israel
Germany
France
Canada
Czech

I do not live in any of the abovenamed countries. Will it allow me to add
my country's holidays and remove those that are not observed in this
country?

Thanks for that - I notice the Calendar prog doesn't have alarms, so
the timerwiz will come in handy for the odd occasion I need an alarm.

UK's calender had no holiday module for my own country, Sweden, before,
so I used the German holidays, because they are very similar to the
swedish.

I wrote to UK (Ulrich Krebs) and asked nicely for swedish holidays, and
helped him set up a module for Sweden, and now it is included in the
holidays package.

You can look at the available holiday modules, maybe one of them is
good enough for you, or you can help the author to create a holiday
module for your country.

Holidays are not so easy to create on your own, because each holiday
follows its own rules. Some are always on the same date, others are
always on the first monday in a certain month, etc..

In UK's calender you can disable any of the holidays in the country
module that fits you best though.

An "interesting" one to work out would be Good Friday -- the Friday before
the first Sunday after the first full moon after the autumn equinox.

When talking to him you should know that he is a very busy person, this
calender is a freeware project he can only give a little attention now
and then.

Have a lot of patience, and I mean REALLY a lot of patience, don't
annoy him with many emails, help him with all details of your country's
holidays you can find, and don't expect quick results.

If you live in New Zeeland, don't you have a similar calender as in
Britain?
Try the British module and disable the holidays you don't have in NZ.

Not really - we have our own set of calendar events, very few of which
coincide with British ones. Of course the international ones - Christmas,
Easter and the like are the same.

Whilst paying allegiance to the British Crown, New Zealand has been an
independent country since 1907, so there has been a period of 99 years for
our own unique set of public holidays and commemorations - some of which
go back to 1850 - to evolve .

Try the British module and disable the holidays you don't have in NZ.

....which would be most of them. How to add those which are uniquely ours
would be the problem.

No, it is not a problem. These new holidays which are not of old
religious nature are usually on the same date every year. You can set
up those holidays as events, repeating once a year, with a special
color and name you easily recognize.

There are many other settings for events, so you can probably even set
up holidays which are not on the same date every year, but follow some
other rule.

Try it out, set up the extra holidays you need as yearly events,
distribute your event file to your countrymen as a special holiday file
for NZ.

UK's calender is also very customizable, colors, views, etc.. It
remembers the view you had when you closed it so you can use it as a
week view calender, or month, forthnight or year view calender.

It has a ToDo list and Alarms. To use the alarm system you need to have
it running in the system tray, otherwise you can close it completely
when not in use.
