I hope some of you knowledgeable folks in here can give me some advice on
this one.
The problem is I attempted to use the Calculator but found it did not appear
in Start>Programs>Accessories.
I decided to re-install from the XP Home CD.
All appeared to go fine but when I run Calc all I get is some sort of DOS or
Command Prompt window which opens and closes so fast I cannot see it's
contents!
I navigate to System32 folder and see there are two similarly named
files....one is Calc.exe and the other is Cacls.exe of exactly the same
size. I try renaming Calc.exe as Calc.old but the original file is
immediately re-created with the original name! (after a view refresh).
Any ideas on how I re-install the Calculator?
TIA
Patrick

Patrick.

Type in Start, Run:

CALC.EXE

Does Calculator open?

No it didn't but it does now.
I got a fix for the problem. I started in safe mode where I was able to
delete the file(s) of interest without their being immediately re-created.
I then re-installed Calculator from the CD.
Apologies for not getting back to you sooner but WYB my newsreader (OE 6)
has now stopped displaying message bodies!
This will probably end up the subject of another message in another group!
I'm posting this from a machine in my place of work.
Regards
Patrick.
