Cached Exchange mode & the GAL

J

Jesslyn Hendrix

We recreated a users mailbox and she now has a different email address,
however myself and another user that are using cached mode still see the old
email address when we access the GAL. How often does the GAL get updated
for Cached Exchange users and how can we force it?

outlook 2003 downloads the offline address book once every 24 hours. you
may have to go into Exchange and regenerate the offline address book before
forcing a download of the offline address book. steps vary based on what
version of Exchange you are running, so post back with version if you don't
know how to regenerated the offline address book in Exchange.

ps - by default, exchange 2000/2003 generate the offline address book once
every 24 hours. i believe it does this 4am if my memory serves me right.

Hi Jesslyn,

Thanks for your posting here.

I suggest you rebuild the offline address book (OAB) in Exchange server and
then manually update the OAB in Outlook clients.

To rebuild the OAB, refer to the following instructions.

For Exchange 5.5:

1. Open the Exchange 5.5 Administrator
2. Connect to an Exchange 5.5 server in the site
3. Highlight the Configuration container for the site, then go to the
properties of DS Site Configuration.
4. On the Offline Address Book tab, ensure a 5.5 server is listed as the
"Offline Address Book server"
5. Generate/Rebuild the Offline Address List

For Exchange 2000:

1. Start Exchange System Manger.
2. Expand and locate to recipients/Offline Address Lists.
3. Right click the Default Offline Address List, and choose Rebuild.

To manually update the OAB in Outlook 2003, click Tools->Send/receive, and
click Download Address Book.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards
Alan Sun
