I'm sorry but without having an XP CD and without being computer-literate,
there is really very little you can do. Take the machine to a local
computer professional. I don't recommend using a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad
type of place.

And did you use a Registry Tool just before you unchecked some Start Up programs from MsConfig.Or in MsConfig did you remove certain lines from the Boot.ini tab

Hi ds666,

You can get and create a Window Live CD so you can boot up and
try to save your data before you can install a clean new OS.
Your OS become corrupted due to the fact you tinker with the registry.

You can do it yourself. Here is the article link that
guide you with the steps:
http://windowsconnected.com/blogs/j...05/creating-a-bootable-winpe-2-0-usb-key.aspx

Hope this solve your problem.

Back up your data by either booting with a Linux Live CD (Knoppix, Ubuntu),
a Bart's PE, slaving the drive into a working computer, or putting the
drive into an external enclosure and connecting it to a working computer.

Then restore your computer to factory condition by whatever method HP/Compaq
provided. Refer to your user manual or to HP's tech support website for
instructions.

It sounds like there is more to the story and/or your computer was infected.
Best to start over at this point.
