XP parallel install

Hi there,
I have a Toshiba with OEM XP home edition and I lost the operating
system CD, I only have a standard XP home CD.
Laptop boots into a a blue screen of death whatever the mode with error:
Stop C0000218{Registry File Failure}.
What is the best way to recover data? Install XP home in a parallel
directory?
Thanks, Calin

You could try booting into safe mode by tapping f8 continuously at startup
and then selecting safe mode from the options. Then backup your data via a
usb thumb drive or an external usb hard drive. You can also try a system
restore while in safe mode just go to:
start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore > select
a date prior to the blue screen of death(BSOD) and restore.

It may also be fixed by running a repair install of windows.
