Peter and Pa Bear "cross-posted" your original message to two other forums
that deal specifically with Messenger. Peter added the MSN Messenger group
and Pa Bear added the Windows Live Messenger group.
When you cross-post, the message shows up in all the cross-posted groups.
This message will be seen in all three. Regardless of who posts a reply in
any of the groups, their messages will be seen here as well. We do this in
order to get the appropriate people onboard. Also, you are posting from
Microsoft's support website. Rather than telling you to go check out those
groups yourself, which can be a pain on that site, it was easier to simply
cross-post to the other groups.

Most of what I found using Google consists of these very messages. Some
hint
at networking problems, but you say other applications are involved. Which
ones? For now, all I can suggest is to uninstall and reinstall your
network
stuff, starting with the network adapter itself in Device Manager.
Uninstall
it, reboot and let it reinstall, then delete the connections in Network
Connections, reboot, then recreate them. I would also "Repair" Internet
Explorer (whether you are using it as your main browser or not.) However,
I
am very rusty in this department, so I'll let someone else describe the
proper procedures if they see fit to do so. My own overkill would be to
first uninstall all Windows Updates dated after your installation of IE8
(if
you have that installed), then uninstall IE8. Then repeat the procedure
for
IE7, then repair IE6 using the following command:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf
That should be entered exactly as shown, including upper/lower case. Check
the spaces, also. Finally, reinstall IE7 then IE8.

The wisest thing to do when it comes to IE Repair, is to ask specifically
about that, in this group., using a new message (not as part of this
thread.) But I think that's where your solution lies.
