A few weeks ago my screen stopped displaying the Windows XP version and my
Word documents began to show all paragraph, spacing and formatting as I am
typing. A few weeks ago I received some sort of message saying that some XP
files are missing.

I repaired the existing XP Home from the CD. During the repair I got an
error code Ox800700007f (? it was faded toward the right side of the code so
not sure if the f is correct). "Failed to load library
C:\windows\system32\catsrv.dll"

Is this error message related to the current display and word problems and
how can I fix it?

thank you,

Did you install SP2 a few weeks ago? If you did that caused the XP version
display to disappear.

In Word click on the backward looking P symbol on the Toolbar. That is the
Formatting button, it toggles to show all the fomatting symbols and not show
the symbols.

catsrv.dll has something to do with COM Services and if you updated to SP2
that may have caused the Failed to load library problem.

Thank you Wes. Ha! Simple fix for Word. What do you know...thanks!
No, didn't install SP2 but I just did tonight because I did the repair to my
XP and needed the updates and SP2 again. Still not showing the XP display.
I've been having other problems with this pc. Time for a new one I guess.

Is there some place to go to download the catsrv file? Or is it not really
that important.

thanks again.

Hi Wendy,

Where exactly are you missing the XP version from?

If you mean on the Start Menu, the version only shows up there if you're
using the Classic Start Menu.

If you mean on the Desktop, you can either use TweakUI or a registry setting
to display it.

If you mean somewhere else, you'll have to say because I cannot think of
where you may mean.

The catsrv.dll is on the XP CD in compacted form listed as CATSRV.DL_ in the
I386 folder.

This may be of some interest.

Although I wouldn't worry about the catsrv.dll problem, especially if there
is nothing in the C:\Program Files\ComPlus Applications folder.
