long story but need help, had a system fail and did the
recovery issue and some how the c: drive is the recovery
drive and the d: drive is not my regular drive.

looking for a starting point to begin..

OK, so where to start: a list of questions:

Were are the applications located? - C:\program files or D:\program files
Same for Windows? C:\Windows or d:\Windows?
Which is your root directory? C:\ or D:\ ?
Are both disks now identical?

If C:\ is the root directory and contains all of windows and all program
files, then don't mess around.

If your system is currently booting off d:\ and has all program files, again
you'll have a lot of work. Registry pointers and the like! Change C to D and
D to C will have your system rendered useless.

Now if you have something like Norton System Works or Partition Magic you
may be able to move applications from C:\foldername to D:\foldername and the
application which moves the foler and files will also update windows registry.

If you don't have these very useful applications, then leave your working
system alone and live with the mess up.

Don't over-confuse and put the poor person in a panic with technical jargon
they probably don't understand.

Step 1.
Right click on the Start button, select 'Explore all users', find out from
that menu, look up the top of the 'tree' as to which drive it's booting from
& advise the group whether its accessing the C: or D: drive in the drop-down
menu. - Then reply with the answer to that question.

Step 2. Dependent on that answer, you'll get advice how to progress from
there. In the meantime, don't panic, let's do it one step at a time.
