Bye Vista, I won't miss ya!

Well today was the last straw. I mean, considering more work than I
consider reasonable I got most my hardware in a reasonable working state...

However the last straw was handed to me today.

First off, WHY THE FLYING RATS ASS **** does it take almost 5 minutes to
move a 2 gig file on the same drive??? Move! ***NOT COPY*** for the reading
impaired. There is a distinct difference. That's just incomprehensible. It
shouldn't take more than mere milliseconds regardless of file size if it's
on the same drives as a move doesn't actually require data to be moved. It
only requires the directory entry of the file to be moved.

But what really got me is this. This one project I work on, uses a
security dongle for anti piracy and to store user access data. This dongle
uses built in standard USB drivers. So they are NOT 3rd party vendor
drivers but they are Microsofts own drivers. They don't work correctly. I
can't live without the dongle though.

There are workarounds if you're just a user of the software that needs
the dongle, but I'm actually one of the developers and none of said
workarounds will work when executing from inside Visual Studio. And I
don't feel like spending 10 minutes working around Vista's problem
everytime I go to recompile the exe to test something.

So byebye Vista and welcome back XP.

Ya know, doesn't matter how much you polish a turd. In the end, it's still
a turd. And this one a quite stinky one at that.

Yes, you are correct.
Microsoft announced they have shipped 60 million copies of this tur(d)key.
Microsoft has the power to cram Vista down the throats of the naive, which
is a major chunk of the computer using public, but I know of very few people
who are knowledgeable enough to make a choice who choose Vista. In fact I
can only think of people who have deleted Vista and gone back to XP or who
dual boot, but do not boot to Vista to do any real work.
The federal government and most businesses absolutely reject Vista: it
offers nothing over XP except aggravation and worse performance.

"The federal government and most businesses absolutely reject Vista"
Really?
However there is some truth but the why is the real question.
Most in those groups are choosing to wait, a few of the many reasons
are:
1. They will purchase when the need for new hardware arises.
2. They need to fully evaluate the suitability with their essential
hardware and software.
3. Some of their current essential hardware and software is
incompatible with Windows Vista.

Or are you saying the federal government has not purchased ANY
computers with Windows Vista?
If the federal government would"absolutely reject" Windows Vista, that
would be the case.
I would like to see the source for this information.

This is a similar situation that occurred nearly 6 years ago at the
release of Windows XP.

However there is at least one significant difference now.
6 years ago, many had Windows ME which more considered inferior to
most every OS.
Windows XP on the other hand is considered stable and secure by most.

The truth will be told as to whether those you referenced "reject
Vista" or are just appropriately waiting.

Most typical users have no need to upgrade to Windows Vista since
Windows XP will probably be supported for several more years.
They will probably get Windows Vista when they next need a new
computer.

Would that be the same federal government who allowed the 9/11
bombers to come and go at will, take flying lessons etc.,
in spite of them being on watch lists?

So babaloo - You going to migrate to Ubuntu? That would be your best bet.

Bye now.

L

Lano DeRetard

No - That is the shadow government ! Just FYI.

What the F does that have to do with Vista numnuts?
You're probably one of those crack pots that think the government blew up
the towers. I'm no fan of the current administrations and never have been but
your comments in relation to Vista was just STUPID.

I agree, Vista is becoming another Windows Me

you know I never had any problem with ME and really don't know why everyone
says it sucked.

Can't say the same for Vista though.

Yes, dear.

I'll second that bp. I liked ME and it never caused me any problems. It was
also responsible for creating one of the best MS newsgroups.

Funny, this kind of discussion could also be read with the release of
Windows 3.0, 3.1,3.11 Windows 95 and 98 Windows XP and now again with Vista.
It'll die down till the next release and then somebody will start it all
over by saying that it sucks..

As long as Vista has WPA, WGA, ISS, DRM and UAC, it will suck. XP sucks
because of WPA and WGA. This is what makes these two OSes suck and have
nothing to do with Win 9x or what happened in the past when MS released
a new OS.

Just for the record I seconded bp's comment on win ME. I can't comment on
Vista as I haven't upgraded from XP yet.

Funny, I noticed you left ME out of your list of releases!

Wrong! You don't have, nor can you afford to have Vista so you don't
know what you're talking about. You're an atheist lying linux troll.
Get lost you moron!

Same here.
Can't say the same for Vista though.

Vista's working pretty well for me, there IS a learning curve to it and
it's NOT going to work for anyone who goes in thinking they can install
and run it w/o doing their homework before and doing some learning
after installing.

The 64 bit edition also requires some software and hardware updating as
did moving from Windows 98 to Windows2000 or WindowsXP, again, those
who did their homework first have no problem, those who didn't will
come here and whine and/or rant.

I'd really love to blame all my own shortcomings on Microsoft, Walmart,
"Big Oil" and/or the government but deep inside I know I'd be lying to
myself, my problems are either genetic or of my own doing.

Thing is though, people like me have work to do. The only homework I
barely have time for is from my language classes I attend in my spare
time. I don't have time for OS homework.

If MS intends to radically change the entire OS around every few years
and requires its users to completely re-learn everything every few years
then they just simply stop becoming viable, to me anyway.

When I go and spend 2 hours trying to do a 10 minute software
change because I am attempting to work around a vista compatibility problem
where it tells me Microsofts own software has compatibility issues (Visual
Studio) and Windows' own USB drivers don't correctly work with the
hardware...then Windows simply stops being a viable solution.

Maybe they fix it in the future....maybe they won't...it is of little
relevance. My deadline isn't 6 months from now...it's now...

I'll take that excuse for 3rd party stuff on the day of the release. I
have a much harder time taking that excuse 6 months down the road. And I
will not possibly accept the excuse for Microsoft's own hardware and
software, which ironically is what I've had the most problems with.

By your description Windows Vista is not right for you at this time
You do not have the time to do the necessary homework and yet that is
what must be done before an upgrade.
Similarly as you research other products before you spend your $.
Not a problem at all as long as your current operating system does
what it needs.

"change the entire OS around every few years"
Windows XP was out more than 5 years at the release of windows Vista.
Windows XP will probably be supported for several more years.

Most people have no need to upgrade to Windows Vista.
Instead they should wait at ;least a hardware or software upgrade
requires Windows Vista.

A new version of a product available has never been a good enough
reason all by itself to upgrade.
This applies to all types of products, not just technology or
computers.

Luck probably had very little to do with it.
More likely your roommate knew how to control his computer.

Those that rely on luck for anything are setting themselves up for
failure.
