My daughters computer uses MS Forefront Endpoint Protection and most buttons are greyed out.
I want to be able to make changes.
Thanks,
Andy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forefront_Endpoint_Protection
"A business antivirus software product that can be
controlled over the network, formerly known as
Forefront Endpoint Protection, ..."
That implies your daughters computer is from her work,
the IT department installed that product, and the machine
is part of a domain. Centralized control means no need
for the users to play with it. Hence, greyed out.
Just a guess,

She should take it to her IT dept. at work and have them remove theMint said:She was given the computer when they gave her a new one.

What make and model of computer hardware is it?
Original install CD's are likely available.
If the IT guy can't pull the exact one out of the junk box
then you may be able to obtain one from somebody online.
