Businesses Having Second Thoughts about Vista

Well, I provide tech support for 6 different family members.

None of them do any video editing, or 'real' gaming. I'm sure there's not a
high percentage of people that do any 'advanced' video editing.

Depends how you define "advanced". Over the last few years both the
home user and prosumer market has exploded as digital cameras add more
features like HD and recording directly to a DVD inside the camera and
prices have dropped a great deal. So lots of people are jumping on
that bandwagon, much like happened in the early 70's with super 8
movie cameras. Mine still works, but finding film for it is another
story. ;-)
Another thing I'm wondering is what you mean by 'advanced' video editing.
I'm taking it as there is no Linux version of Adobe Premiere or
AfterEffects.

Adobe Premiere is so 90's. That is no longer considered a professional
product by most professionals. Adobe simply hasn't kept up and has
stumbled badly. The swing has been towards newer products like Vegas
on the Windows platform and Final Cut Pro on Macs. Linux has nothing
but Mickey Mouse video editing applications. For the dead serious
there is always AVID, but pro grade versions you need to take out a
second mortgage to afford it and is generally only seen in production
houses. Ditto for Pinnacle which has a professional line but it too is
very expensive and far beyond the junk they dump in the retail
channel.
And, Frank-itis is really getting to you...

First, toy OS, now OpenSores. I guess you caught those OpenSores from Frank
now. I'd stay away from him. You may soon start oozing VistaPus out of your
anus.

Frank is just a fool to be made fun of. That's the only purpose he
serves.

It's a great toy and you're nothing but a lying FUD spreading moron!
But we all know that don't we?
Frank

What everyone by now has concluded is you are a world class idiot that
only knows how to scream drunk, liar, troll or your newest addition to
your vocabulary, moron.

As I have said, if all you want to do is surf the internet and troll
Microsoft news groups - Linux is sufficient. If you want to do real work you
need Windows. By your statement I see that we agree on that.

Richie doing "real work" is a oxymoron.

My definition of 'advanced' video editing is NOT transfering from
whatever media to digital info on a HD. It is NOT simple non-linear
editing with scene transitions and adding a music track.

Actually, I don't even know what the definition is, since I really
haven't done anything more than previously mentioned.

Doesn't seem to me though there's a whole lot of demand for 'advanced'
video editing @ home.

I hadn't realized that. I've been out of the video scene for a while.

Of course, I try not to use Adobe products whenever possible. To me, they
ALL seem hard to learn how to use, and for editing still images, PSP does
just fine.

I agree....Pinnacle Studio is dummied down to the point of junk.

Bottom line,
Ubuntu is for Geeks who have lots of time on their hands and want to tiker
with toys.

Actually, Ubuntu is for non-technical types on home computers, it
doesn't offer as much as most other technical version of Linux does.
Ubuntu makes a great platform for those that don't need much and want
something easy to setup.

I hadn't realized that. I've been out of the video scene for a while.

Plus now Adobe uses a idiotic activation scheme similar to
Microsoft's. Which was another reason I didn't want to do a clean
install of Vista.

Get how anal Adobe has become. I've been a user of Photoshop since
version 3. In fact I got it free with an old scanner and have been
upgrading on a regular basis. Well if you need to rebuild your system
not only do you have to activate Photoshop and other top end Adobe
products, you can't install the software so it becomes a chicken or
the egg kind of problem. Where it gets to the point where it asks you
to insert the old product CD to confirm you're entitled to upgrade it
just goes into a loop and never lets you proceed. You then spend an
hour on the phone trying to explain you're entitled to upgrade, but
they come back and actually have the nerve to tell you that since
you've been a customer for so long their scheme doesn't support your
version and to get the newer software upgrade installed you have to be
walked through a multi step hack while on the phone with some senior
customer support person Grrr! That's enough to raise your blood
pressure.

Yeah, your huge marketing business.

Kind of hard to believe a marketing company uses any 'specialized'
software.

"Specialized"?
Fukk you dan, never said "specialized" did I, huh?
I'd hardly call all of Adobe's software "specialized". I call it very
mainstream! Wouldn't call any of Corel's software "specialized" either.
It's all mainstream. Nor is MS Office or any of the other MS software.
Try running it on linux without wine or any emulator, ok.
