I said that Ubuntu is for geeks. Of course they can fax, surf, and print.

We are installing Ubuntu for six year olds all the way up to 74 year
olds. All are very happy. Oops.
Any new computer will run Windows 9x.

Good luck getting the drivers.
You may not want to put it on a new
computer, but it will run. Reboot - OK so what.

When you're in the middle of something?
Defrag? Yes it's a pain
but less of a pain than Ubuntu.

Ubuntu needs no defragging. Oops.
Who wants to dual boot to use a TOY OS? Get real. People don't want to
dual boot just to pay with Ubuntu - Get real.

I know of many who do just that and find themselves in Ubuntu a lot more
than XP.

Oops.

So you have proved my point. A TOY Operating System just for geeks.
I have heard that with the OpenSores software you can even write words
down, numbers down and even draw primative pictures. NO advanced
video editing, no real gaming. But you can surf, print, and check
email. Boy, my old Windows 98/ME pile can do those things.

Well, I provide tech support for 6 different family members.

None of them do any video editing, or 'real' gaming. I'm sure there's not a
high percentage of people that do any 'advanced' video editing.

Another thing I'm wondering is what you mean by 'advanced' video editing.
I'm taking it as there is no Linux version of Adobe Premiere or
AfterEffects.

And, Frank-itis is really getting to you...

First, toy OS, now OpenSores. I guess you caught those OpenSores from Frank
now. I'd stay away from him. You may soon start oozing VistaPus out of your
anus.

MORE diarrhea of the mouth.

Now if you read the article, you will notice that the company, PatchLink
provides solutions to companies who want NETWORK security solutions.
PatchLink polled 250 of them. Now, in the network world where Linux has
a higher presence of users than in the home market, the number THINKING
of migrating to Linux is about 8%, or maybe 20 companies. Not surprising
for businesses.

Yes, I know that the subject of this thread was geared towards Business,
but most users here are HOME users. It is natural that business explore
the possibility of migration to a non Windows solution. Whoppte-do.

A tehc friend of mine has been installing Ubuntu on HOME computers, one a
day, for the last month. He can't keep up!
If the home user has issues with Vista being slow, crashing, not running
their software, fixes will be coming,

Yeah, in the form of paying more for hardware.
or they can migrate back to XP. But they certainly don't want Ubuntu or
Linux.

Um, you don't speak for anyone but yourself.
Bad choice for most. Reason being is they want something that they can
work with right away. Ubuntu has a steep learning curve that most don't
want to deal with.
False.

Bottom line, Ubuntu is for Geeks who have lots of time on their hands
and want to tiker with toys.
False.

Just another posting by the Ubuntu Marketing Department (Alias) to try
and scare the visitors the the windows.vista.general group to think about
Ubuntu.

LOL! MS is the KING of FUD and you are one of the fanboys that laps it
right up.
Why would they want a TOY OS to play with when they can use Vista or even
XP to get real work done?

Ubuntu is not a Toy OS, of course!

I do tell them and those few who do video editing are encouraged to do
a dual boot with XP until the video editing programmers get with the
new OS that will wipe Windows right off the map.

Have they tried ZS4 and LiVES ? I'd be interested in an opinion.

As I have said, if all you want to do is surf the internet and troll
Microsoft news groups - Linux is sufficient. If you want to do real work you
need Windows. By your statement I see that we agree on that.

I do real work with Ubuntu and make a lot of real money.

Good idea there Dan. You should stay away. From what I've heard, I
wouldn't want to bend down to pick up any soap with you around :-)

Being as it isn't correct ...

The people who do admit that they get viruses are paying attention. Live
with it.

Still can't face the truth wittle man?
Just got to keep on lying wittle man?
Well, we all know that is all you ever do!

Grow up dan, I've a list as long as a yard stick of software we need to
run our business that won't run on linux...period!
That's why linux for the desktop is often referred to as a "toy" os.
Frankly (pun intended) I don't give a sh*t about linux or the Godless
atheist liars who inhabit this Vista ng lying about it, ok?

Spell god backwards and you'll know what you are.

I think you are talking out your Frank again.

Advanced video editing hasn't really arrived to Linux, nor has gaming.
For everything else, emailing, Internet surfing, faxing, printing, etc.,
Ubuntu is great.

Sadly no, Linux as of yet doesn't support professional grade video
editing, otherwise I would have kicked Windows like a bad habit.

Like with anything else if Ubuntu is a good choice or not depends WHAT
you use your computer for. For routine things, Linux is a good as or
better than Windows. That's simply the truth no matter how much the
usual fanboy loons screams it isn't.

Grow up dan, I've a list as long as a yard stick of software we need
to run our business that won't run on linux...period!

Yeah, your huge marketing business.

Kind of hard to believe a marketing company uses any 'specialized'
software.

Now if you were to say we need to use some type of scientific/mathmatic
simulation packages, or (doh!) that you do high end graphics editing,
then maybe I'd by your reasoning.
That's why linux for the desktop is often referred to as a "toy" os.

Yeah, I'm really pissed now. None of my Windows s/w will work under
Ubuntu.

So what you are saying is you have no reasons for that other than seemingly
than Frank calls it a toy OS.

Linux is the choice for many businesses. Of course Frank would
probably call such companies "toy" corporations. <snicker>

The reality is each of the three top operating systems, Windows, Mac
and Linux offer different pros and cons DEPENDING on how you're using
the computer, if or not you network with other computers, what
hardware you need to use, what software you need, your experience
level, etc., all play an important part on what you decide on.

Windows while having by far the largest install base has a bad
reputation for crashing and constantly needing security patches and
updates. Macs and Linux are generally more stable, but Apple due in
part to a poor business decision in the beginning having decided on a
"closed" architecture compared to Windows "open" architecture lacks
diversity as far as hardware and to a lesser extent software support.
Linux while offering a superior operating system that is rock solid
stable once you get past installing it and the devices you need lacks
software support from major developers and support even for common
hardware devices is at best spotty.
