burning question

I have Home basic.MY dvd drive is dvd recordable,on Amilo Li1705.
Fujitsu-Siemens were not helpful and neither were Nero.
The problem is I can no longer burn cd/dvd - data, music, video, image, anything.
I do not know what the problem is, so i start with this basic:

When I click on a data file e.g. and chose Burn from the title bar, I get
two windows pop-ups. The 1st says the disc drive is in use (there is a blank
disc in it!) and to save the files on the disc befoe ejecting. The 2nd
,almost simultaneous to the 1st, says insert a disc (it is already inserted!).
If I right click the file and chose Send to dvd drive, nothing happens.
I can play movies etc., using Media Player 11 but I really want my copy/burn
facility back!
Help!!!

do yourself a favor and download a real burning program like

www.cdburnerxp.se or
http://www.burnaware.com/

both are free...

the built in vista one is extremely lame

No - You are just a retard who doesn't understand how Vista works so you
have to bash it. I suggest getting "Vista for Retards" and study it for 6
weeks, then come back. Just FYI.
