DVD/CD burning problems

I have Vista Home Premium x64 installed on my computer. The computer is
furthermore equipped with a DVD burner (Samsung Writemaster). I have problems
burnings files to both DVDs and CDs using Vista's built-in burnings software.

When I insert an empty DVD-R disc in my DVD burner the icon for the DVD
drive changes and acknowledges that I have inserted a DVD-R disc. When I try
to open the DVD driver, however, Windows displays a message saying that it
cannot read the DVD in the drive instead of opening a writeable folder.

The DVD-burning hardware seems to be ok however as it is possible to burn
ISO files using ISO Recorder v3 (freeware application).

All drivers are up to date.

Anyone who has any ideas on what might be wrong or what I might be doing
wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Might it be the fact that you have the ISO Recorder software installed. In
other words, do you know if you had this issue prior to installing that
software?

Yes, I had the same problem before I installed ISO recorder, unfortunately...

Have you checked the compatibility of your burner with Vista 64-bit and have
you checked for any updates including firmware for the burner in that
regard?

The DVD burner uses the standard Microsoft drivers that ships with Vista,
and thats the way it is supposed to be; Samsung hasn't released any drivers
for the DVD burner, for any OS. So I guessed that it was Vista x64
compatible...

Firmware is up to date.

Noticed something else that is peculiar; I am able to burn audio CDs and
data CD/DVDs using Windows Media Player so the burner definately seems to be
working with Vista - on some level at least. Am I just missing something on
how to use the built in burning capabilities of Vista? Shouldn't I be able to
double click the DVD burner device and get a burnable folder to which I can
copy various files and finally burn them, the same way I could in XP?

I haven't had any problems burning dvds with Vista (using Nero), but cd burning is a HUGE problem. I have had issues using Roxio (came with Vista), Windows Media Player, Nero, iTunes...you name it. On occasion I can get an mp3 data disc or a cd to burn, but 9 times out of 10 I will get a vague error message half way or 3/4 of the way through.
