burning movies to dvd

why is it that when i try to burn a movie to a dvd i get a message that the
disc i am using is not a blank disk it doesnt seem to make any difference
what dvd i use. i was told that i might have a disc that was not verified
still in my computer if this is the case how do i find it so that i can
remove it for some reason i can still burn audio cds hoping some on can help
me.
