burning files onto a CD for Windows 98

Trying to burn Excel files onto a CD from a XP to be used
on a 98 box. When CD is in 98 box, error message reads D:/
is not accessable, device is not ready. Cannot Win 98 read
CD's from an XP?

If you have used the inbuilt burning, or a mastering program like Easy
CD Creator or Nero, then it is not a software problem, but a hardware
one. Compatibility of burner/reader and the disk itself is always a
matching problem in burning CD-R disks. Try a different make
