I have the zone alarm firewall, should I also activate
windowsXP's built in firewall or is it better to run just
one?

One firewall on a computer is best. Running two firewalls always creates the
possibility of conflicts. Install one, then get it working correctly. Review
its logs, and take action when necessary.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
