I have AVG7.5 and Zone Alarm Firewall on my computer. Is my computer
protected if AVG is not started up when Windows Start?

The Icon is not in the tray. Does the program has to start-up when Windows
starts?

Adding to earl, it depends on when you set it up, did you elect for the
program to start up?.
If you didn't try to do so through the Program configuration option.
Run the program and check for updates, does it update?.

If you chose to have the program start with Windows, it's starting with
Windows (and probably even earlier.) The last part of the program to
load is the interface, since nobody uses the interface while the program
is loading. When the icon appears in the tray, the interface has loaded.

Yes, it must start when Windows starts, and must be running in the
background at all times.
