SP2 - Firewall ON or OFF?

R

Robby

I've updated my Windows XP Pro to Sp2 - no problems. I have unistalled Zone
Alarm as per Microsoft's advice but left the Windows Firewall as the default
ON as per upgrade. In the Control panel - "Security Centre" the Firewall is
showing as ON, but in control panel "Windows Firewall" is showing the
Firewall is OFF.

Is the Firewall on or off - how can I tell?

Hi

The SP2 Firewall is ON by default, so still should be unless you have
manually disabled it.

Not being wise here...turn the MS Firewall Off and reload Zone Alarm or any
other well know firewall. I loaded SP2 with Norton installed, and as soon
as it booted I turned MS Firewall Off and have not had any problems at all.
MS has done a nice job on SP2 but I will trust Norton in dealing with my
firewall control. The MS Security Center shows Norton Firewall is installed
but indicates it cannot provide status on it...that is fine with me.
